LATERAL CONNECTIONS: Flexseal Ranges used on M1 widening scheme

Installation of 120 Flexseal saddles and over 300 Flexseal couplings on the M1 Northbound, from Junction 25 to 29.

As part of the M1 widening scheme, due for completion in Autumn 2010, Flexseal have supplied a full range of our market leading saddles and couplings.

The PA saddles were installed into the 600mm twin wall ribbed surface water drainage pipe, and each was installed in around 7 minutes from pipe exposure. The alternative to these saddles would be cutting an entire section out of the pipe and using a standard junction as a joint - costly, disruptive and time consuming.

Several of the UA saddles were used on a larger diameter twin wall pipes, as the Flexseal PA Saddles are designed for use on up to 600mm diameter pipes.

A number of FA150B saddles were also installed onto a variety of sized pipes, mainly 750mm concrete - all for the purpose of surface drainage.

In addition, in excess of 260 Flexseal couplings were installed, ranging from SC290s to LC690s, including a selection of Flexseal bushes used to connect pipes of differing outside diameters.

After this success on the M1, the PA Saddle has received Highways Agency Approval, in addition to Transport Scotland approval after use on the A9 .
