Liam Claffey, Marketing Intern
When did you join Flexseal and what did you do beforehand?

I started at Flexseal in June 2012, and before that I was studying Business and Marketing at Sheffield Hallam University where I finished in May this year. I'm currently a correspondent for Code13 Rugby League and I undertook a years' paid placement at Sheffield Hallam in which I was responsible for events and marketing for International Students at the University.

What does your role at Flexseal entail?

I am supporting the launch of The Fernco Pipe Doctor Patch Repair Course by creating promotional materials and other documents that tie in with the course and the launch of the new training facility. I'm also reviewing Flexseal's social media, looking at ways to improve the service provided, and been tasked with producing an e-presentation for the sales team along with some market research into other products and areas of the business.

Had you heard about Flexseal or couplings before you joined the company?

Honestly, no! Drainage isn't an industry I've ever thought about but I did a bit of background research before I started and was really surprised at how big the industry is and how successful Flexseal are.

I've learned all about drainage couplings, how they're made and what they do and after spending time with the team I now consider myself an expert on the Extra Wide Wraparound Coupling!

I have friends who live just five minutes from the Flexseal offices and drives past it all the time - it's an impressive building but they didn't know what Flexseal actually does! Some local marketing may be in order...

How does Flexseal differ from anywhere else you have worked before?

I've never worked for a manufacturer before, but it's very interesting how the marketing is different from that of other organisations I've worked for. Having worked for big organisations who have such a high number of staff, it's been enjoyable working at Flexseal within a small, close-knit team who have made me feel very welcome.

What do you hope to acheieve at your time here?

Whilst I'm only here for a short period of time I hope to pick up a lot of new skills and knowledge that I will be able to take forward into my career. Hopefully what I learn here will improve my employability and fingers crossed I'll get a good reference too!

Aside from thinking about the fantastic Fernco Pipe Doctor, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I do of course love the Fernco Pipe Doctor but that aside from that my main love is Rugby League (slightly obssessed) and supporting Sheffield Eagles. Apart from that you will usually find me at the gym, pub or cinema with friends.

Thanks very much for your time Liam.
