Recommended tightening procedure 

Tighten the Clamp / Shear band units in sequence across the width of the coupling to the recommended torque. Once assembled, carefully tamp the bedding under the pipeline.

Prior to backfilling re-tighten all clamp units to the recommended torque. This is important with large diameter plastic pipes as temperature shift can relax the pipe by up to 3mm and not provide an air tight / water tight seal.

Flexseal shear banded couplings (200mm and above) have two tightening locations on each of the clamp bands and both must be tightened.

Tools for tightening couplings

Flexseal can supply both an 8mm Nut driver and a 8mm Ratchet.

It is always recommended that a Torque wrench is used for tightening couplings to the correct torque.
